I don't know how much help I can be, since I've yet to land my print journalism dream job EITHER, but some of the things you could do is include more of the preparation that went into writing the articles you've done... (in particular with your current position)
i.e. research, interviews, editing, etc. etc.
I'm sure that newspapers (or magazines) would want to see that you've conducted interviews and are comfortable with that since you'd most likely be doing that in the new position. I see that you've done that for your student newspaper experience...
I did notice that in the first experience you wrote "idead" instead of "ideas"
Could you add maybe some relevant courses you took in school that would make you stand out? Maybe you received an award or were published in a newspaper/magazine other than the ones you worked for. Are you proficient or knowledgeable in design programs like Quark, I know some smaller papers really need help with layouts too, and if you have that experience/knowledge it might help.
I hate applying to jobs!
1Thanks Syako.
I was typing this up really fast this morning, but I made sure to check that spelling error on my actual resume and it wasn't there ... thank goodness! I could put down that I am confortable using/learning more about Adobe suites under the qualifications section; I guess that just didn't cross my mind.
Has anyone EVER landed their dream job?
2Ha. Hey I posted my resume after you and Bella gave me some GREAT tips that might work with your resume too. Check it out.
3Hi fashion- I graduated from an UW school too and I can't even find a job to apply for! I have a degree in Journalism too and I want to write or edit for print too. Where do you search for the job postings?? Congratulations on your graduation!
